Asumiko Koen Park (Hasuike Lotus Pond)

明見湖(はす池)

A historic pond covered with lotus flowers

Lake Asumiko, nestled within this quiet mountain neighborhood, is also called "Hasuike" meaning "lotus pond" by locals because its surface is covered by lotus flowers. A diverse ecosystem of fresh water and swamp system wildlife calls this pond home.

According to legend, it was once considered one of the "Eight Lakes of Mt. Fuji" and was used in purification rituals performed by Mt. Fuji worshippers before embarking on their pilgrimage to the summit.

In present day, the park is enjoyed by visitors of all ages who are interested in nature observation and photography or are just out for a nice stroll or on their way to hike neighboring Mt. Shakushiyama.
