Asumiko (Lotus pond) Park

明見湖(はす池)

A lake where you can enjoy the sight of lotuses extending out over its entire surface

Lake Asumiko surrounded by good-old mountain villages is also called "Hasuike (lotus pond)" for the lotus flowers covering its surface. A wide variety of living things of fresh water and swamp water coexist, and flocks of waterfowls rest their wings on the lake. According to legend, it used to be one of Fuji Eight Lakes ー Fuji Five Lakes added by Lakes Sibireko, Asumiko, and Ukishimanuma in Shizuoka Prefecture (later replaced by Senzui in Yamanashi Prefecture) ー and was the place of the cold-water ablutions (purification) for Mt. Fuji worshippers before their climbing.
The park is enjoyed by visitors for nature observation, sauntering, and photographing, and by Mt. Shakushi climbers as a hiking course.
