The starting point of the Yoshida Trail from the base at 1,450 m
Umagaeshi (literally meaning "return horses") is the starting point of the Yoshida Trail at the altitude of 1450m at the base of Mt. Fuji. It once had four mountain lodges in the vicinity and was a popular spot where climbers who could go no further on horseback would turn their horses back and begin their ascent on foot. It is now one of the Mt. Fuji World Heritage Site Assets.
The "Umagaeshi Rest Area" is a relaxing place for the climbers staffed with volunteers in the summer climbing season. It was opened to "revive" two historical lodges, Daimonjiya and Meidai Sanso, for visitors to experience history first hand.
The lodge offers climbers refreshing Mt. Fuji spring water and cold barley tea as well as information about Mt. Fuji and Fujiyoshida City.
